We call him Lucky for short. After enjoying a jaunt to Baja California Mexico where we danced with Blue whales and Gray whales, on the road to the airport, we spotted him at, of all places, an abandoned resaurant. Nothing more than bones and maybe a day of life left in his body, we pulled over and donated a meal of all we had, bean and avocado burritos, soy cream cheese, leftover Boogie Bar and a gallon of water. One of the members of the trip was humanitarian extraordinare, Patty Shenker, who encouraged us to keep the ball rolling to change this dog's future. A group in Loreto (Baja) called Animalandia that has a spay and neuter clinic for dogs and cats was called upon and they found the dog from our description. It was an amazing feat, especially since the first two weeks of March the Mexican government apparently sponsors a national dog feeding frenzy of poisoned laced hot dogs to combat the homeless dog population. This happens especially in the tourist areas. Lucky was housed with foster parents until I was able to go get him, get his paperwork done and fly him home. He is amazing, loves all people and animals. I'll get that recipe for the Baja bean and avo burritos, great snacks and great travel food!
